Lisbon is Portugal’s capital city and it’s also its largest city. The Portuguese capital of Lisbon is situated at the mouth of the Tagus River and it is the westernmost capital of a mainland European country. The westernmost part of Lisbon is occupied by the Parque Florestal de Monsanto (Monsanto Forest Park).

Torre de Belém is Belém’s most famous tower. The tower was built late in the reign of Dom Manuel (1515-1520) as a fortified lighthouse, to guard the entrance to the port.

The other historical building in Belém that you are definitely advised to visit is the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos. In the centre of Belém you will find the Praça do Império. They are gardens centred upon a large fountain that was laid out during the Second World War. Belém is one of the most visited Lisbonite districts.
