Palermo
Palermo’s modern city could easily be mistaken for Paris, or one of Europe’s other fine capitals. However, a mere 15 minute walk would introduce you to a distinct district, full of hidden treasure and evocative history like no other.
This multicultural city is ideal for those who look to explore their holiday destinations beyond typical tourist spots and mainstream attractions.
Palermo is full of back street markets and dilapidated buildings left behind by World War II. With its unique array of palaces, castles and churches of varied condition this region is a real treat for those interested in history, architecture and social ritual.
Palermo truly is a smorgasbord of design and architecture that twists and turns with every street. Highlights are the Arab Domes and Norman Cathedrals that live in curiously close proximity to each other.
Day trips to the beach are never out of the question either, nor are excursions into Palermo’s hilly countryside.
Palermo has plenty to offer in terms of nightlife with its great variety in pubs, bistros and discotheques catering to all ages. The Kalsa area is perfect for those looking to chill out with a nice glass of wine.
If you're looking for one of Italy's cultural hot spots, Palermo will be perfect for you.

Ustica
This small volcanic island off the coast of Palermo is ideal for a day trip away from the main land. The sea is extremely welcoming while the island itself is easy to get around and explore by foot or rented scooter.

Drop by the Botanical Gardens at the University of Palermo. This garden is full of beautiful flowers and plants that are cultivated for both medicinal and decorative purposes. The building itself is of a neoclassic design, begun in 1789 and finished in 1795- a must see for those interested in architecture.
Catacombs of the Compuchins
This is an extremely interesting feature of Palermo where 800 of its mummified dead are on display, all dressed in their original clothing and invarious degrees of preservation. Definitely not for the faint hearted, but an interesting trip for those interested in sociology and custom.
Teatro Politeama
This amphitheatre-style venue is at the heart of Palermo and always has something going on, particularly during its concert season where two programmes arer running one in the afternoon and another in the evening. Perfect for fans of both classic and contemporary music.
Museo Etnografico Pitre
