Instigated by the Japanese, the Chinese were blamed for the atrocity giving the Japanese an excuse to invade and occupy the entire northeast part of China. Shenyang was the epicentre of that particular invasion and today a museum is located a few feet away from the very spot where the explosion occurred. This museum chronicles this incident from a Chinese perspective. Entry is free. It is a very interesting museum to visit but be advised that there are views from only one perspective - so bear that in mind.

Shenyang is the home of the largest statue of Mao Zedong. This particular Mao statue is even the largest in all of China. You will discover images of peasants, soldiers and workers in heroic poses around the base of the statue. It is also a very popular place for locals and visitors to relax.

The Xinle Site Museum is an incredible museum. Here you will find the remains of a 7,000 year old, Stone Age, village. This museum now houses the spectacular archaeological finds and the village has been reconstructed to its former glory.

Some historical facts that you may not have known about Shenyang are that this friendly Chinese city was the home to Zhang Zuloin, the warlord who ruled the entire Northeast of the country during the 1920’s. And in 1905, the Russian army were defeated by the Japanese in Shenyang.
