Nightlife

As the city of Frankfurt is a young city, socialising and parties are always taking place. The areas of Bockenheim, Nordend, Bornheim and Sachsenhausen as well as Frankfurt city centre are the main areas where you will find plenty of action.

In Frankfurt city centre you will discover the rather seedy red light district -which is heavily patrolled by police and local council officials close to the main station (Hauptbahnhof).

The high profile Frankfurt venues usually open late and finish in the wee hours of the morning while bars close at around 23:00-01:00 and the small clubs will close their doors at 03:00-04:00 on Saturday nights. For those of you who wish to enjoy an all-night party is to head to Alt-Sachsenhausen. You will find plenty of bars that will definitely remain open until sunrise.

There are so many clubs in Frankfurt, which cater to business people and they can also organise corporate events for you and your group. Germans seem to favour electronic music and a number of Frankfurt clubs offer this type of music. Get ready to party Frankfurt style!!!

Restaurants

The food and drink scene is second to none and it is one of the top attractions in Frankfurt. Restaurants in Frankfurt offer visitors a tour of the entire world as well as a wide variety of German style restaurants that you definitely must try.

If you are interested in sampling traditional German cuisine, you have to venture into one of Frankfurt’s many Äbbelwoi kneipe’s (applewine taverns) where you will be able to feast upon interestingly sour homemade apple wine, vast arrays of meats and sausages, handkäse cheese and other scrumptious German treats.

Shopping

Frankfurt is a fantastic destination for shopping. This striking city on the Main has some superlative outlets for the discerning shopper.

The Zeil is the most popular shopping area in Frankfurt and you definitely have to visit this famous shopping street during your Frankfurt holiday. It begins at Hauptwache and it stretches all the way to Konstablerwache, with the city’s main department stores (Kaufhof and Karstadt) as bookends.

You will discover small shops and boutiques with clothes, shoes, leather goods, and plenty of fast-food joints and bakeries that will certainly keep you busy.

Beautiful Goethestrasse, which runs parallel to Freßgasse is where you will come across high end and haute couture collections. This elegant strip of shops is home to some of the most famous designers in the world, including Versace, Gucci, Prada, and many other world renowned boutiques.

For more funky boutiques, second-hand outlets and hard-to-find items, try Berger Straße, where shops extend from the Merianplatz to Bornheim Mitte U-Bahn stations, or else Leipziger Straße in Bockenheim.

If you adore your street markets, Frankfurt is definitely the destination for you. They are predominantly filled with fresh foods and flowers, and few retail items. However, Saturday mornings the Mainufer is turned into a large flea market with a huge selection of used items.

Shopping hours in Germany have remained a long-fought battle, but recently the government approved Monday to Saturday shopping until 20:00. Everything is closed on Sundays, except for the souvenir shops at the Römerberg, and shops at the Hauptbahnhof and the airports.
