Nightlife

Kraków has the highest density of bars in the world. Simply hundreds of bars can be found in cellars and courtyards stretching from the Old Town toKazimierz and beyond. Keeping them open, of course, are the thousands of tourists that flock to Kraków every year, and with higher tourism comes higher prices: expect to pay 7-10zł (2-3 Euros) for a large beer.

Restaurants

Good restaurants and various other eateries that offer quality food are found throughout this charming Polish city. Yet Krakow’s historical Old Town central district seems virtually stuffed with establishments that cater to all types of diners. Here, you will be able to discover hundreds of restaurants, cafes, bistros, grills, pizzerias, salad bars. They are all located in every available space of the area’s old palatial residences and stately burgher houses – upstairs, downstairs, and most willingly in those vast ancient cellars.

A couple of blocks south another scenic downtown district, Kazimierz, which is famed for its past Jewish quarter, also boasts numerous eateries, which you will have to try.

Krakow Restaurant Traditions

Krakow gastronomy has a long and glorious tradition that dates back to the famously lavish medieval and Renaissance feasts and the Baroque extravaganzas of Polish gentry gourmets. And the city’s legendary restaurants of the past two centuries are fondly remembered. Yet recent decades have brought about a genuine restaurant explosion owing to the hectic efforts of aspiring restaurateurs, native as well as immigrants.

Shopping

Krakow isn’t a shopper’s paradise by any stretch of the imagination but Krakow’s  artsy reputation makes it a great place to purchase antiques, artwork and jewellery. Areas that you must visit include Kazimerz and the open air markets particularlyPlac Targowy. For typical Krakow souvenirs you are advised to head to the Cloth Hall in the centre of Krakow’s main square. Here you will find glasswork, amber, lace, wood-carvings, stuffed dragons and local traditional sweets.
