Cheap Flights, Holidays and City Breaks to Warsaw, Poland from Ireland

For all you culture vultures out there, Warsaw is a city that you must visit. It’s full of energy and there’s so much to see and do, so talk to us today about booking a holiday, flights or city break to Warsaw.

Warsaw, Poland’s capital is located on the Vistula River, 260km from the Baltic Sea and 300km from the Carpathian Mountains. Warsaw is also known as the ‘’Phoenix City’’ because it has survived so many wars throughout its complicated and tough history. The city of Warsaw had to be painstakingly rebuilt after the extensive damage it suffered during World War Two, which 85% of its buildings were completely destroyed. Experience all of this for yourself with a flight, holiday or city break to Warsaw from Ireland.

On the 9th of November 1940, Warsaw was awarded Poland’s highest Military Decoration for Heroism, the Virtuti Militari for the Siege of Warsaw (1939).

During your holiday to Warsaw you will see that buildings here are representative of nearly every European architectural style and historical period. Warsaw has breathtaking examples of architecture from Gothic, Baroque, Neo-Classical and Renaissance periods and all within easy walking distance of the city centre.

During your exploration of Warsaw, you will come across palaces, churches and mansions, which display a richness of colour and majestic architectural details. These are all great reasons to think about taking a city break to Warsaw.

You will also have to visit the Great Theatre, which is the home of Poland’s National Theatre and Opera.

For history lovers, Warsaw is a phenomenal place to visit. A visit to the Jewish Quarter is a must, where you will discover the history of Warsaw’s tragic past. You will have to visit the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes, the Umschlagplatz and a part of the Ghetto Wall that is located on Sienna Street, which are all part of Warsaw's turbulent history.

During your historical tour of Warsaw, you are sure to find many places that commemorate the heroic history of the charming Polish capital, so check out our low fares on Warsaw city breaks from Dublin, Cork and Shannon. Pawiak, an infamous German Gestapo Prison, which is now occupied by a Mausoleum of Memory of Martyrdom and the Museum, is only the beginning of a tour, which traces the heroic city of Warsaw. It definitely should not be missed.

This Polish city is the home of Chopin. He is widely considered one of the greatest romantic composers. Take a walk in the footsteps of Warsaw’s best-known resident.

The Royal Łazienki Park is one of Warsaw’s most stunning spots. It is a great place to bring the entire family or to stroll through the park and relax.

You have to visit Warsaw’s Old Town, where you will find some major tourist attractions, including the Royal Castle, King Zygmunt’s Column, Market Square and the Barbican. Warsaw’s barbican is one of a few remaining relics of the complex network of historic fortifications that once encircled Warsaw. It is located between the Old and New Towns and it is one major tourist attraction that you definitely should visit.

In 1980 the Old Town of Warsaw was granted the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a lively place and it’s always bustling with tourists and locals.

You then have to follow the Royal Route, where you will find classicist palaces, the Presidential Palace and the University of Warsaw and Wilanów Palace, which is the former royal residence of King John III Sobieski and it is notable for its baroque architecture and its picturesque and well-maintained parks.

Another major landmark you have to see when you are in Warsaw is the Praga District and it is where you will find 19th Century architecture, upmarket clubs and it is an artist’s paradise. It is such a magical and charming place to visit when you are in Warsaw.

A trip to Warsaw wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Saxon Garden. Saxon Garden is Warsaw’s oldest public park and it is only a ten-minute walk from the Old Town.

This amazing city is full of contrasts, which are sure to excite and inspire you.

Warsaw's climate is humid continental  with cold winters and warm summers, on the border with an oceanic Cfb climate. The average temperature is −3 °C (27 °F) in January and 19.3 °C (66.7 °F) in July. Temperatures may often reach 30 °C (86 °F) in the summer. Yearly rainfall averages 495 millimetres (19.5 in), wettest month being July. Spring and Autumn are usually beautiful seasons, the former crisp and sunny and full of blooms and the latter alternately sunny and misty, and cool but not cold.

Eating Out

There are basically three ways you can experience the Polish dining experience. The cheapest is at one of the surprisingly large number of surviving communist era Milk Bars. In the communist era, the government subsidised the food at Milk Bars. The idea was to allow lowly workers to afford a meal out. The Milk Bars offer many of Poland's traditional favourites. Then there are the chains of ‘country cottage’ style places which turn out Polish staples of rye soup, stuffed dumplings and heaps of meat and veg in gut-busting portions. The third form is still a relatively new one and involves a growing number of young, world-class chefs using their talents to bring Polish cuisine into the 21st century. We can happily recommend all three forms depending on the occasion.

Getting Around

Warsaw Public Transport

Warsaw's public transport system is well developed. Buses, trams, and subway line share the same tickets, passes and prices. It's wise to keep a supply of tickets because many corner stores and bright green "Ruch" booth that sell tickets are open only during the day. You will pay an extra fee when buying from the drivers. Warsaw's metro has only 1 line and is of limited use for visitors. With the exception of limited night buses (starting with letter "N"), urban transport runs daily from 4:30AM till midnight.

The fare is a flat rate for a bus, tram or metro train travelling anywhere in the city. One fare is valid for one ride on one form of transport.

The “sightseeing route” bus No 180, which links Powazki Cemetery with Wilanow Park, stops at most attractions.

Car Rental

There is little incentive to drive a rented car through Warsaw's traffic. But there are a lot of good reasons to hire a car in Warsaw for trips around the countryside.

Polish Zloty

Clubs in Warsaw range from sedate to sinful, and we cover the full gamut here. A night spent clubbing means you’ll most likely greet the dawn because, unlike the closing times you might be used to, Polish clubs stay open until the sun comes up. Expect a cover charge at most venues that can range from 5-20zl depending on events, and note that toilet paper is often a luxury that seem to universally run out around 10 p.m.

Paparazzi's cocktails are worth the dip into your wallet, as are the drinks at the Marriott's Panorama bar that offers spectacular views from the 40th floor that will cost you.

Today new restaurants are springing up throughout the Polish capital and the sheer variety on offer has obliterated the dreary old eastern-bloc stereotype. From chic Italian joints to funky fusion numbers, you definitely won't go hungry in when you are in Warsaw!!!!!

The Polish capital of Warsaw has attracted all the big international names in shopping, keen to take part in the country's economic resurgence. As a business hub, Warsaw is also an oasis for travellers looking for smart clothes at reasonable prices. Still, the city continues to retain its old world charm, and there are plenty of smaller stores tucked on the back streets with treasures waiting to be discovered. Warsaw is a shopper’s dream. Happy shopping!!!
