Climate

Istanbul has a borderline Mediterranean Climate and a humid sub-tropical climate, since only two summer months have less than 40 millimetres (1.6 in) of rainfall, preventing it from being classified as solely humid subtropical or Mediterranean. However, due to its vast size, diverse topography, and maritime location, Istanbul exhibits microclimates. Northern parts of the city express characteristics of anoceanic climate because of humidity from the Black Sea and the relatively high concentration of vegetation. The climate in the populated areas of the city in the south is warmer and less affected by humidity

Eating Out

When searching for a restaurant in Istanbul, you will witness most restaurants trying to get your custom. There is so much competition between restaurants here to make you come inside. However, the best restaurants in this charming and friendly Turkish city are not always the expensive tourist restaurants, but the small Lokantas where even the Turks themselves enjoy visiting for dinner.

Getting Around

Transportation has come a long way since its early days. You can choose from buses, mini-buses, trams, trains, funiculars, trolley cars and ferries.

By Bus: Metropolitan buses in Istanbul are frequent, comprehensive, economical and easy. Always check with the driver before getting on, making sure the bus is going in the direction you need it to go. Some of the major hubs are at Besiktas, Taksim and Eminonu. Tickets are sold at the major hubs or on the bus. Buses run roughly from 6.00/6.30am until 11.00pm/midnight.

Metro/Underground: Istanbul's modern underground is growing at a fast pace. The metro is open from 6.30am until midnight. The Metro extension connecting the airport to the city is now complete.

The Funicular: The subway known as Tunel connects the sea-level neighbourhood of Karakoy near the Galata Bridge with the lofty neighbourhood of Beyoglu at the southern end of Istiklal Caddesi Tunel. Trains run Monday to Saturday 7.00am until 9.00pm and Sunday's 7.30am until 9.00pm and the cost is 1TL

Dolmus (Minivans): Dolmus are yellow minivans, which operate like group taxis with set routes. A relatively informal system, dolmus run daily from early morning to early evening. A Dolmus will leave its terminus (marked with a blue ''D'') only when it fills up and then pick up and drop off passengers along the route. For shorter distances 3 to 5TL should cover it. If you wish to get off earlier, you have to shout Inecek Var, which means this is my stop.

Historic Trolley: The trolley runs daily from 7.00am until 11.00pm and it makes three intermediary stops along the way at Huseyn Aga Camii, at Galatasaray High School/Flower-Fish Market and in Beyoglu at Nutru Soak (in front of the Turkiye Is Merkezi)
