Things to do in Doha

Things to do in Doha

A spectacular skyline, world renowned art scene and stunning desert landscapes, Doha makes for an amazingly unique holiday destination. I paid a visit to Qatar's capital recently and loved every minute! I recommend flying with Qatar Airways as the services is outstanding. A Qatar holiday is all about treating yourself to some luxury.

My home for the 3 nights was the 5-Star Intercontinental Doha. With 500 metres of sandy beach, 6 restaurants & bars and a free form swimming pool, I was in my element. The hotel was also in the perfect location as Downtown Doha, the city centre and Doha golf club were all just minutes away.

I visited many stunning hotels during my stay. Including the Westin, Ritz-Carlton, Sharq Village Resort & Spa and St Regis. All these 5-star hotels boasted luxurious rooms, stunning restaurants & bars, pools and spectacular spa facilities. I would recommend any of these hotels for the perfect romantic getaway. If you are planning a family holiday, the Westin is the best choice. The swimming pool here features the first man made wave pool, which is great fun for all the family.

What I Loved

I really enjoyed visiting the Museum of Islamic Art, some of the pieces dated back to 1,400 years ago. There were many fascinating exhibits and workshops. The views of the skyline from the museum are also amazing.

Activites and Places to See

• The hop-on, hop-off bus tour of The Pearl and Kantara Cultural Village is a must do on a Doha holiday.

• A Desert safari is great fun! Many local companies offer a range of desert excursions.

• Souq Waqif is the perfect place to shop and dine. For centuries this traditional Arab market has been used by Bedouin, nomads who have historically inhabited the Arabian deserts. I recommend doing a guided tour of the building as it is steeped in history.

Villagio Mall is one of Doha’s newest shopping malls. Its architecture is inspired by the Venetian in Las Vegas. Take a gondola ride, enjoy a meal in one of many restaurants or shop till you drop!

Restaurants and Bars

All the meals I had were in the hotels I visited. The selection of breakfast in the Westin and Sharq Village can’t be faulted. The food at the Ritz Carlton was also mouth-watering.

The InterContinental’s private beach was the perfect place to relax. I could have laid there all day! Katara Beach is the only public beach in Doha, it is enjoyed by locals and families.

Whether you want to explore the wonders of the Middle East or simply unwind on a private beach, a Doha holiday has something for everyone. The blend of modernization and history is so unique. This up and coming city is becoming increasingly popular, it’s time to cross Qatar off your bucket list.
