The month-long tour begins in Cape Town on July 3rd with a game against Siya Kolisi’s Stormers. Here one can enjoy a hike up the iconic Table Mountain or take a trip by boat to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years in prison.

Next up is Port Elizabeth and its stunning beaches, for a match against a South Africa ‘invitational’ team on July 7th.

3 days later the Lions play the Sharks in Durban, another coastal city popular for surfing. The area surrounding the city also boasts beautiful savannah populated by animals such as rhinos, lions and giraffes.

Mbombela (formerly known as Nelspruit) is the host city for the fourth game of the tour against South Africa ‘A’ on July 14th. This city serves as a popular stopover for tourist travelling onto Kruger National Park.

The team then travels to Pretoria also known as the ‘Jacaranda City’ because of the beautiful purple jacarandas trees that line its streets. The game played here will be against the three-time Super Rugby champions the Bulls, on July 17th.

The city host for the first test on July 24th between the Lions and the Springboks is Johannesburg, South Africa’s most populous city. What began as a 19th century gold-mining settlement, the now massive city has plenty to do such as the Apartheid museum or exploring Nelson Mandela’s former house.

The tour returns to the Mother City of Cape Town for the always crucial second test against South Africa on July 31st, before concluding the series with the final test back in Jo’burg on August 7th.
