Other landmarks that you have to see while holidaying in Bordeaux are the Church of Notre Dame and the Grand Theatre de Bordeaux, so check out our deals on city breaks to Bordeaux from Ireland at exceptional prices. The Church of Notre Dame is located on Place du Chapelet.  and the central doors bas-relief shows the Virgin Mary giving the rosary to St. Dominque. The interior of the church is striking for the purity of the churches stonework. The overworked façade is in the Jesuit Style and the churches ironwork definitely adds to the beauty of this church.

You should visit the Grand Theatre de Bordeaux. This theatre was first inaugurated on 17th April 1780. This is the exact theatre where the Ballet la Fille Mal Gardee premiered in 1789, and it is also where a young Marius Petipa staged some of his first ballets. The theatre has a neo-classical façade endowed with a portico of twelve Corinthian style colossal columns that support an entablature on which stands twelve statues, which represent the nine muses and the three goddesses; Juno, Minerva and Venus. It is one of the oldest wooden frame Opera Houses in Europe not to have burnt or required re-building.

Today, the Grand Theatre de Bordeaux is home to the Opera National de Bordeaux as well as Ballet National de Bordeaux.

Bordeaux is the world’s main wine industry capital. Wine has been produced in this part of France since the 8th Century. Of Bordeaux’s 57 different wine districts, perhaps the best known is Saint-Emilion, Medoc and Margaux, where you will find the classically elegant chateau. It is a must see for both its colonnaded façade and its world-renowned red wines.

Although great white wines are produced and made in Bordeaux, the region is particularly renowned for its reds. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the most widely grown grapes for these, the former for its vigour and tannin and the latter for its softness.

If you are a wine connoisseur, call us today about our flights, holidays and city breaks to Bordeaux and take part in one of Bordeaux’s famous wine tasting tours. It can be a little perplexing to the uninitiated, so the guidance of an expert is highly recommended.
