Lithuania Holidays, Flights and City Breaks

Lithuania is located in northern Europe and it is the largest of the three Baltic States.

Lithuania’s historic heritage sets it apart from its Baltic neighbours of Latvia and Estonia. When visiting Lithuania few travellers may not have guessed that Lithuania was once the largest nation in Europe.

Lithuania’s charming capital of Vilnius is a small but wonderful city to visit. It is an amazing place to admire a range of architectural styles as the city boasts a mixture of Gothic, Renaissance, Neoclassical and Baroque buildings. You should ramble through the narrow streets of the Lithuanian capital where you will be able to sit back and relax in one of the many cafes on Pilies Street.

Gediminas Avenue, which is the main street in Vilnius, is lined with Government buildings, theatres that lead towards the old neighbourhood of Žvėrynas. Vilnius is a tourist’s paradise where you will come across a wide range of famous attractions as well as many other must-see monuments and museums. There are so many sights and attractions to explore and to keep you busy during your Lithuanian holiday.

A holiday to Lithuania isn’t complete without a trip to Palanga, Lithuania’s popular seaside resort. Although Palanga gets crowded during the summer months, you'll be able to discover and explore some great beaches and beautiful sand dunes there. It is a World Heritage Site that is shared between Lithuania and Russia and it's best explored from the large port city of Klaipeda.

Juodkrante not far from Klaipeda is where you’ll discover the Hill of Witches. It’s decorated with sculptures from Lithuanian tales and legends. A few kilometres from the northern city of Siauliai, you will find the impressive Hill of Crosses. It is an extraordinary sight and a very popular pilgrimage site amongst Lithuanians and tourists alike.

Over a 100,000 crosses have been placed here by visitors who have travelled from far and wide. Druskininkai, the popular spa resort town is located on the other side of the country and, surrounded by rivers and serene lakes, it's in a very therapeutic setting.

Like its Baltic neighbours, Lithuania has a lot to offer for those of you who enjoy the outdoors.  Aukstaitija National Park is one of Lithuania’s most popular national parks. While hiking through Aukstaitija National Park you are sure to spot elk, deer as well as wild boar.

Kaunas is the top city to visit in Lithuania.

The city of Kaunas is a must for any eager traveller. Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania.

Most visitors to this charming Lithuanian city come for its magical sights.  Vytautas Church is a must see during your Kaunas holiday or city break from Ireland. It is a Roman Catholic Church in the Kaunas’s Old Town and it is one of the oldest churches in the city. It was built on the bank of the Neman River around 1400 for the Franciscan monks and foreign merchants. It was constructed in the gothic style and it is an example of Lithuanian Brick Gothic architecture.

Kaunas Fortress is a major landmark that you have to visit when holidaying in Kaunas.

For those of you who are interested in this part of history, you will have to explore the Ninth Fort with a fine toothcomb. Ninth Fort is part of Kaunas Fortress so you won’t have to travel too far.
