Stockholm has a humid continental climate. Due to the northerly latitude of the Swedish capital, daylight varies widely from more than 18 hours around midsummer, to only around 6 hours in late December. Despite its northern location, Stockholm has relatively mild weather compared to other locations at a similar latitude, or even farther south.

Summers in Stockholm average daytime high temperatures of 20–25 °C and lows of around 13 °C, but temperatures can reach 30 °C on some days. Winters are sometimes snowy with average temperatures ranging from -5 to 1 °C, and sometimes drop below −15 °C. Spring and autumn are generally cool to mild.

Eating Out

The Swedish capital of Stockholm is one city that is overflowing with restaurants, which offer spectacular sea views as well as other unique characteristics, which will definitely add new components to your dining experience.

Getting Around

Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, SL (Stockholm Public Transport  runs an extensive subway, commuter train and bus system as well as some light rail and ferry services, all using an integrated ticket system. In an attempt to cut down Stockholm now operates a RFID card called "SL Access". The card costs 20 SEK to purchase and can load all tickets available in the SL fare scheme.

The Stockholm Card allows free public transport as well as free admission to 80 museums and sights in Stockholm, free sightseeing by boat and other bonus offers. Adult 24 hours 450 SEK, 48 hours 625 SEK, 72 hours 750 SEK, 120 hours 950 SEK. Children (7-17 years of age) 24 hours 215 SEK, 48 hours 255 SEK, 72 hours 285 SEK, 120 hours 315 SEK.

Stockholm has a metro system called the Tunnelbana.  It is extensive for a city of this size, and will get you around almost all the downtown places as well as many inner suburbs. Trains run from 05:00 to 01:00 on weekdays and around the clock on weekends. Night buses replace the trains on weekdays. The metro is probably the fastest way to travel to many inner suburbs not served by suburban rail, as well as offering a scenic view from the bridge between Gamla Stan and Slussen.

Suburban rail

Stockholm also has a suburban rail network (Pendeltåg) reaching 53 stations, including Uppsala, Knivsta and Bålsta in Uppsala county, plus Gnesta in Södermanland county.

Suburban trains are included in Stockholm's transport ticket system, with the exception of Knivsta and Uppsala on line 38, which employ Uppsala's local transport fares. It costs 60 SEK (35 SEK for youth) to get there if you already have an SL travel card.

Light rail, tram, bus and ferry

Tvärbanan is a light rail line connecting the western and southern suburbs with a new section forming a 3/4 loop around Stockholm opening in mid-2013.

Spårväg City is a city tram that connects Sergels Torg to Waldemarsudde on the Djurgården Island, as serving the Nordiska Museet, Gröna Lund and Skansen.

Buses serve most populated areas where the rail doesn’t reach. Four inner city main lines numbered from 1 to 4 are operated by large blue buses (weekdays every 3-10 minutes), the other, generally less frequent lines (weekdays 7-20 minutes), by red buses.

There are also ferries going to Djurgården and Skeppsholmen. Bus and light rail is included in any SL ticket or pass, and travel with the Djurgården ferry.

Cycling is an attractive option during the warmer seasons, and there are many bike paths here in Stockholm. On a bike, a journey across the inner city takes no longer than 30 minutes, and can be faster than travelling by subway or car. There are cycle paths along most major streets and drivers are generally considerate towards cyclists. In winter, when the paths are covered with ice, extra care should be taken.

You should check out Stockholm City Bikes. In the summer months, you can use the city-operated bike loan service by purchasing a key-card. Bike stands throughout Stockholm allows you to pick up a bike in one stand and leave it in another. A three-day (minimum period) key-card costs 165 SEK and a season pass costs 300 SEK. You may not use a bike for more than three hours at a time, but it is possible to switch to a new bike when returning a used one. Key-cards can be bought at an SL Centre. Major hotels in the Swedish capital will have three-day key-card available for guests at the front desk. Note if you want to register for a key card, you will need proof of ID, for example a passport or driving licence.

Bike Sweden offers a variety of high quality bikes in the centre of the city. From mountain bikes, children’s bikes and city bikes, you will find an endless amount of bikes to choose from.  Child carriers and child seats are also available. Helmets are included in the rental price. Bike Sweden is open from 10:00-18:00 April-October. Call to rent bikes off season on +46(0)8-403 07 520 or check-out for more information.

Djurgårdsbrons Sjöcafé, Galärvarvsvägen 2 (on Djurgården, just to the right as you cross Djurgårdsbron).  It is only open during the summer months. To rent bikes per day it will cost 250 SEK. You can also rent kayaks and roller blades.

Stockholm is a fantastic setting for a night out. The Swedish capital is the epitome of Scandinavian cool.

Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town comes to life after dark. Its beautifully lit-up streets are definitely worth exploring where you are sure to come across lively bars and pubs and so many restaurants that you must try.

For the budget traveller, a trip to the Sodermalm district of Stockholm is an absolute must as it is the cheapest part of town to enjoy a superb night out, Stockholm style.

Medborgarplatsen and Gotgatan still retain their pleasingly sleazy feel. Packed with a fair number of the city’s sizeable student population at any given time, this is where you will witness the real heart of Stockholm’s nightlife.

In the smart residential area of Ostermalm, Stureplan is Sodermalm’s polar opposite. With its decidedly more upmarket feel, swanky cocktail bars and chic clubs, many backpackers and budget travellers may feel priced out of the area.

To the north of the city beyond Norrmalm, the district of Vasastan is usually lively around Tegnergatan and Rorstrandsgatan. Out to the west, Fridhemsplam and Scheelegatan in Kungsholmen is where you will also discover good venues.

Stockholm’s nightlife is one of a kind and it is right up there with the best cities in Europe.

Check it out!!!

During your city break to this city you will discover that Stockholm's restaurant scene is a melting pot of flavours from all corners of the world. The best of Swedish cuisine is served as well, often in contemporary interpretations.

Here you will find carefully prepared ingredients such as game, fish and shellfish, and the best that Swedish farms have to offer. Desserts often incorporate the Swedes’ traditional and beloved blueberries, lingo berries and cloudberries. Select a dish with the flavours of the Swedish sea or forest, enjoy a traditional smörgåsbord with herring, salmon and many other delicacies, oh yes and we can’t forget Swedish meatballs, of course!

Västerlånggatan and Stortorget are two other parts of Stockholm that are lined with restaurants. You will be definitely spoilt for choice.

Stockholm is a city that allows you shop until your drop. During your city break in this charming and stunning Swedish city, why don’t you visit all the stores that this city possesses, which includes top-name Swedish and international brands.

For souvenirs and crafts why not visit the galleries and the boutiques in Västerlånggatan, the main street of Gamla Stan. You should hit the shops at the beginning of Hornsgatan on Södermalm where you will be able to purchase fine art, crafts and jewellery.

Drottninggatan, Birger Jarlsgatan, Biblioteksgatan, Götgatan, and Hamngatan also offer some of the best shopping in Stockholm. Happy shopping!!!!!
