It is protected through legislation, which was passed in 1885, declaring that these lands were to be conserved and never put up for sale or lease. It consists of 700,000 acres of land. If you are interested in the history of the American Presidents, visit the historic Springwood estate in Hyde Park. Springwood was the birthplace of the 32nd President of the United States of America Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was his lifelong home and burial place.
